Haftarah cases for synagogues

In short: the right height for a Haftarah case

We build a Haftarah case at 45%–50% of the height of its matching Torah case. That keeps the pair reading correctly in the ark: clearly smaller, but not lost beside the Torah case. Material, finish and lettering style stay identical across the pair, while the lettering itself refers to the prophet and verse rather than the parashah.

  • A fixed height ratio: 45%–50% of the matching Torah case.
  • The same material and finish as the Torah case — wood or carbon.
  • Torah case lettering follows the parashah or theme; Haftarah case lettering follows the prophet and verse.
  • The pair is matched to the community's custom — Yemenite, Sephardi, Ashkenazi or Chabad.

How a matched pair is built

The Torah case is set first, to the measurements of the actual scroll.

The Haftarah case height is then derived from it, at 45%–50%.

Material, finish, crown and lettering are matched last, so both cases read as a single set.

How to measure before ordering

Three measurements are taken from the scroll itself: the height of the parchment, the rolled diameter, and the total height including the atzei chaim.

The case is then built around those figures with working clearance, so the scroll stands stable and is never compressed.

Every product page on the site lists internal and external dimensions, so they can be compared against the measurements taken.

If measuring is not possible, we guide the measurement remotely from photographs and instructions, and confirm the figures before production starts.

Frequently asked

How tall is a Haftarah case?
At KADOSH³ a Haftarah case is 45%–50% of the height of its matching Torah case, so the pair sits correctly together.
Must the pair be ordered together?
Not necessarily, but ordering together makes it easier to keep the same material, finish and lettering style and to confirm the height ratio.
