Torah case — the complete guide
The short answer
A Torah case (tik) is the rigid case in which the scroll stands, opens and is read, as practised in Sephardi, Mizrahi, Yemenite and some Chabad communities. Choose it by four things: the scroll's real measurements, the community's custom, the material (wood or carbon) and the design. Our wooden cases start at 19,000 ILS, carbon cases have a 40,000 ILS base price, and the matching Haftarah case is built at 45%–50% of the Torah case height.

What a Torah case is
In many communities the scroll is not kept in a soft mantle but in a rigid case that opens in two. The scroll stands inside it during the reading, protected from knocks, dust and humidity.
Wood or carbon
Wood is the traditional choice: warm, familiar, carved and finished to order, but more sensitive to humidity and temperature.
Our carbon cases are built from structural carbon fibre cured under heat and pressure in an autoclave. The new build is three layers — 3K, 12K and 3K — at least about 5% lighter than a six-layer 3K build and significantly stronger.
In practice carbon is light to carry, stable against humidity and heat, and carries a 30-year warranty on the case body and structure.
Following the community's custom
The case shape, crown and opening differ between Yemenite, Sephardi, Ashkenazi and Chabad custom. The custom is confirmed with the community before production starts.
Measuring the scroll
Three measurements are taken from the scroll itself: parchment height, rolled diameter and total height including the atzei chaim. The case is built around them with working clearance; remote measuring from photos is supported.
A matching Haftarah case
The Haftarah case is built in the same material and design as the Torah case, at 45%–50% of its height. The calculator on this page gives that range from the Torah case height.
Care and storage
Store at 15–30°C and 35%–60% humidity, away from direct sun, fire and liquids. Clean with a dry microfibre cloth only and carry with both hands.
