Three Writing Traditions
Yemenite, Sephardic and Ashkenazi: the differences in script, parchment and the form of the scroll.
The three traditions differ in the form of the letters, the tagin, the division of columns, and at times in the writing material itself. The Yemenite tradition writes on gvil in Yemenite script; the Sephardic tradition commonly uses Arizal script; the Ashkenazi tradition uses Beit Yosef. The tradition is chosen according to the custom of the community in which the scroll will be read.
