The Haftarah and Its Link to the Parashah
Twenty-one verses "on the subject of the portion" — and why a haftarah case is its own item.
The rule "The haftarah is read from the Prophets on a subject related to the Torah portion, and one does not read fewer than twenty-one verses, unless the passage concludes with fewer" (Shulchan Arukh, Orach Chayim 284:1). The haftarah is chosen for its link to the portion, so a change of portion changes the haftarah too.
Differing traditions The division of haftarot is not identical in every community. Yemenite, Sephardi, Ashkenazi and Chabad customs differ in opening and closing verses and sometimes in the prophet read. At KADOSH³ every pairing is recorded with its tradition, and no unverified pairing is shown.
Why a separate case A haftarah scroll is smaller than a Torah scroll, so its case is built at 45%–50% of the height of the Torah case — a ratio kept for every pair on this site. The pair reads as one composition, yet these are two items with independent dimensions, materials and price.
